This is a working palette for a monograph about family and north coast BC's political economy.
This project began with interviews of my father I recorded many years ago. Over the years I started to collect autobiographies and memoirs of sons writing about their fathers. This has grown to include accounts of daughters writing about their fathers.
Each of the branches of my family link to unique histories and experience of becoming Canadian (for my settler ancestors) and being Tsimshian. This family history spans immigrants from Scotland, France, and England and the indigenous Tsimshian of the north coast that is my home. This is primarily a working class history of labourers who lived through pivotal moments of North America's history and transformation.
Here are some published papers that relate to this project.
- 2019. Sea Legs: Learning to Labour on the Water.
- 1994. Stories from Home: First Nations, Land Claims, and Euro-Canadians.
